Director of State Policy
Tyler Barnett is the Director of State Policy for KnowledgeWorks. In this role, he provides leadership and support in the development of a state policy agenda for KnowledgeWorks with a focus of providing policy flexibility and alignment to support the expansion of personalized learning. His responsibilities include authoring policy documents and white papers to advance educational transformation, leveraging strategic opportunities to provide thought leadership around personalized learning, and working with key partners in targeted states to develop and advance policy recommendations.
Prior to his current role, Barnett served as the Director of Charter School Development for the Arkansas Public School Resource Center, where he led the statewide strategy to incubate innovative school redesign models for both charter and traditional schools throughout the home region of the Walton Family Foundation. He has also served as Director of the Office of Educator Quality with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and he has completed a policy fellowship with Education Pioneers at the Illinois State Board of Education in Chicago.
Barnett earned his Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Missouri and is an alumnus of Teach of America, wherein he taught high school English in Memphis City Schools.
